Description and Features of the SITE/ASSET
The monastery was funded in the 9th Century, but the actual building was constructed between the 11th and the 13th century. The confiscation of Mendizábal in 1836 caused the abandonment and consequent ruin of the building. Looting and plundering were usual. Due to the situation of helplessness, in the year 1871 it was decided to remove the most valuable capitals of the cloister, the chapter room and the church, being deposited in the National Archaeological Museum. In the mid-1930s some arrangements were made on the church's roof. http://intervenciones.santamarialareal.org/intervenciones/ver/aguilar-de-campoo-monasterio-de-santa-maria-la-real/3 [Image: By Zarateman [Public domain], from Wikimedia Commons]
