Description and Features of the SITE/ASSET
Civitella è la terza rocca di Baragazza di cui si trova menzione in alcune mappe d'epoca. Il sito si trova a poca distanza da Badia, nel comune di Castiglione dei Pepoli e sede dell'omonimo casello autostradale posto sull'A1 verso Bologna. Le vestigia attuali, di importanti dimensioni, occupano un'area di circa 500 metri quadrati. Le mura, per un terzo ancora visibili e in alcuni punti quasi integre, riassumono una conformazione piccola ma ben strutturata. La torre ha un'area di circa 16 metri quadrati con uno spessore murario di 1,20 metri. Sono evidenti all'interno delle mura i fori per le palificazioni e le feritoie. Si presume una datazione intorno al XI-XII secolo. Scarne sono le notizie riguardo al sito, che segue il corso degli avvenimenti del castello principale di Baragazza (BO): nel 1296 il castello è donato a Bologna; nel 1340 entra nei possedimenti di Taddeo Pepoli; nel 1441 il castellano lo cede per denaro a Baldaccio d'Anghiari.
