Description and Features of the SITE/ASSET
Castello costruito, non prima del 1239, dall'architetto Riccardo da Lentini su mandato di Federico di Svevia. Già sede del parlamento siciliano (XIII secolo) e, quindi, sede reale (XV secolo), a partire dal XVI secolo fu temporaneamente dimora del vicerè e quindi adibito a prigione. Interessato dalla colata lavica del 1669 e dal terremoto del 1693, nel corso del XVIII e XIX secolo su prigione e caserma. Dal 1934 è sede del museo civico della città di Catania.
